Comber Rec 11 - 0 Upper Ardoyne
After the disappointment of the first game of the season being postponed, the Comber players were determined to start the season with a victory and so it proved.
After a long kick off from Upper Ardoyne Cameron Foster slipped a great pass through to Robbie Johnston who beat his marker and played a lovely ball to Timmy Browne, He ran past the Ardoyne Defenders and smashed a low drive past the keeper for his first goal and making it 1-0 to the Rec.
His and Combers second followed quickly after a clever pass from Timmy Larmour sent Calum McCloskey clear down the left flank, Calum picked out Timmy B with a great pass and he rounded the keeper and slotted in his 2nd.
Again Upper Ardoyne pushed forward but again they were stopped in their tracks by Josh Boal. Josh played the ball to the agile Oliver Wilson who showed great skill by picking out a long pass to Adam Manley. Adam ran the defender hard only to see his shot put out for a Corner. Calum sent in another great corner which the Ardoyne defence struggled to clear, The ball fell to Aaron Hawthorne whose goalbound shot was stopped by the arm of an Ardoyne defender and the Referee had to award the penalty. Up stepped Timmy Browne and slammed in his 3rd to make it 3-0 to Comber.
Comber were well in control by now and after more superb work in the midfield Timmy B picked up the ball on the half way line and was only heading in one direction. He again picked his spot and fired in his 4th and made it 4-0 to Comber.
The two front men for Comber were darting everywhere and creating gaps which were being exploited on every occasion by the quick thinking Comber midfield,This led to the Ardoyne defence playing a pass back to the goalkeeper who panicked and lifted the ball which awarded Comber a free kick from about 10yards out. The quick thinking of Robbie by passing to Timmy B who shot high into the goal for his 5th and 5-0 to Comber.
A long kick from the centre put the Comber defence under pressure but Matty Davidson was well placed and gathered up the ball.Matty then made a great kick from his box and found Callum who skillfully brought the ball under control and passed the ball to Oliver Wilson who then found Timmy Browne with a lovely pass, Again Timmy split the Ardoyne defence and raced threw to hammer home his and Combers 6th. 6-0.
By now all the Comber players were playing with great confidence and it wasn't long before Robbie hit a cracker into the top corner for his 1st goal and 7-0 to Comber.
Half -Time
Comber made two half time substitutions bringing off the the front pair of Adam Manley and Aaron Hawthorne and replaced them with Alex Robinson and James Hogg.
Comber kicked off and immediately went on the attack with a great passing movement ending in a delightful pass from Calum to put Robbie through and he hammered home his second and Combers 8th. 8-0.
Credit must go to the Upper Ardoyne boys who continued to play some nice football but another shot was well saved by Matty Davidson, Matty sent another great long clearance to the feet of Oliver Wilson who turned and passed to Timmy Browne who turned on the speed and poked home number 9 which was his 7th goal of the day. 9-0 Comber.
A further batch of substitutions saw Timmy Browne,Oliver Wilson and Cameron Foster depart and Harry Walker, Taylor Long & Dean Chadwick join the game.
Again the sheer strength of the Comber lads was clear when the rock solid Timmy Larmour in defence played a lovely pass to Harry Walker who turned and found a great pass which split the Ardoyne back line to play in James Hogg who with lots of work still to do hit a great shot to score his 1st goal and Combers 10th. 10-0 Comber.
The heat of the morning was starting to tell on all the players but the fresh running of substitute Taylor Long saw him win the ball in the Ardoyne half and he kept his composure to play a great ball to Combers little flying machine Alex Robinson who cooly lobbed the keeper for his 1st goal and number 11 for Comber. 11-0 Comber.
Even at this stage Upper Ardoyne continued to search for a way through the Comber back line but Dean Chadwick raced back to clear the ball off the toe of the striker when it looked like he was going to shoot.
Credit again must go to the Upper Ardoyne team for their battling performance but all the plaudits go to the Comber Rec players who produced a great performance.
