27th March 2010 North End v Comber Rec. Comeback Kings of Comber A smashing game of football, on a lovely morning, on a nicely sized pitch for the under 11’s. The game started well with each side having a bit of goalmouth action and their small no.10 looking sharp and eventually was awarded M.O.M. The ‘wee rec’ did however take the lead when Callum McCloskey chipped a nice long through ball to the deadly Josh Bole and once he reached 18/20 yards he slammed it into the roof of the net for 1 nil. North end who were in a determined mood hit back with a well worked goal and the rest of the half was end to end with Comber having a strong penalty claim and the Comber defence holding firm to keep the scores level. The second half was again very entertaining as both teams went at each other and cancelled each others attacks out. The two sidelines where also getting very excited and some strange refereeing decisions did not help in settling matters. The game took a real edge when with 10 mins to go Matty Davidson our goalkeeper rushed to the edge of his box to clear and the ball took a rare bounce over his foot leaving the forward an easy goal. Comber knew it was now going to be very tough but they have great inner belief and they went for it, keeping North End back in their half. There was only 2 mins left when good work by Olly Wilson and Cameron Foster on the right set up Robbie Johnston who struck a beauty from the corner of the ‘18 ‘across the keeper into the roof of the net. Well to say that the lads, coaches and parents celebrated is an understatement. The coaches would have taken a point but the lads had other ideas as they went for the win. A battle at the edge of the box ended with Josh Bole breaking into the box and then calmly lobbing the keeper. The Comber connections were in ecstasy as the lads did a pile on and enjoyed that goal, but it wasn’t over yet. The referee played a lot of overtime and appeared to award a lot of decisions to North End and it took Cameron Foster to clear of the line and two good saves from Matty to keep the lead. Billy Davidson, Timmy Larmour and Aaron Milligan also scrapped to hold the lead as did our midfield. Goal Scorers: Robbie Johnston, Josh Boal 2 The lads so enjoyed this hard-fought victory and they deserved it after all that took place and the whole squad went out for lunch and then onto the CIS cup final. A great day of Football for the under 11’s who are a great bunch of lads who are a credit to their parents and to ALL the coaches who have helped in their development.
