Under 13s Match Report

Comber v Waveny Youth

Comber started the match brightly and were soon in control of the play. Harvey Whiteside was combining well with the central midfielders Gattis and Johnny. Chances arose early on for Comber with Adam Childs almost finding the net from close range, only to be denied by a great stop by the Waveny keeper. Comber also had a strong shout for a penalty shortly after as Adam was brought down, but the ref judged it to be outside the box. Midway through the half Comber were starting to let the visitors get back in the game with Waveny almost going ahead but fortunately the cross bar denied them the lead. With only a minute left of the half Comber finally got the opening goal. Elliot Wilson pounced on a lose ball inside the Waveny box, slotting it into the net.

Half time 1 - 0

Comber came out in the second half a bit sluggish and were giving the ball away very easily which led to Waveny scoring to make it 1-1. Comber were still playing sloppy football in the midfield following the goal and could have went a goal down but the Waveny striker struck the bar again. Comber lifted their game and were now starting to cause a threat on the wings and upfront. As comber went on an attack a comber player was brought down on the edge of the box. Up stepped skipper Conor Black who scored direct from the free kick with a superb shot into the roof of the net. 2-1 Comber. Comber were playing much better now with Johnny Burgess creating chances with powerful runs through the midfield. Waveny still looked dangerous on the break though and came close on a few occasions but the home defence dealt with the danger. Comber put the game to bed later on in the half, Elliot Wilson again finding the net to secure the 3 points for Comber.

This was a very good result and good display of football from Comber after a long lay off from Xmas and poor weather. Men of the match for Comber were Johnny Burgess & Conor Black who both gave 100% throughout the match.

Goals: Elliot 2 Conor 1
