In glorious sunshine Comber took on Larne Colts
at Parkway. On ten minutes and against the run
of play Larne opened the scoring with a long
range effort that took a wicked deflection beating
Andrew Topping in the Rec goals. Comber responded
well from this setback and on at least three
occasions should have scored when in "one
on one" with the keeper.
The Rec lads continued to press in the second-half
and again were unfortunate when within a minute
of the restart an effort was cleared off the
line. Time after time the Larne goal was peppered
as the Rec lads pushed for the equalizer. It
was a case of desperate defending and heroic
goalkeeping that denied Comber.
Eventually
the breakthrough arrived in the form of
an exquisite lob from the hardworking
Stuart Hanna. With Larne restricted to
the odd break Comber pressed hard for
a deserved winner, however, they would
find their luck out when in the dying
minutes two goal bound efforts were blocked,
the first struck a defender and the second
a terrific save from the Larne keeper.
