Under 15s Match Report

Comber   3     Crewe    2

Comber started their first match at Henry Jones on a perfect morning for football after two matches postponed the previous weeks. Early on the home side played slick passing football and chances fell to Cliford, Wilson, and Moore, but were not coverted. Totally, against the run of play Crewe scored when their tall no7 was allowed to run half the pitch and tap the ball into the net. This however was only a minor setback for Comber, as Clifford scrambled the ball home after a great corner from Dunlop. The game turned a bit nasty when Clifford was hit by a Crewe player on an off the ball incident which the referee failed to see. Wilson then put Comber  2-1 up. He went on a strong run and poked the ball pass the Crewe keeper, who was having a fine game. Coulter and McVicker were controlling the game in midfield, and the Crewe player were putting in some tasty challenges to try and prevent the Comber domination continuing.

Milligan and Kalkerts came on at half time to add fresh energy into the team and it wasn't long before Milligan fired Comber into a 3-1 lead, hitting a powerful shot into the Crewe net. Two opposing players were finally yellow carded by the ref, to try and stop the persistant fouling by Crewe. Then after a rare Crewe corner, they forced a goal, when their striker was allowed to head unopposed into the goal. Bad marking lads! During their celebrations however, the Crewe no4, delivered some colourful language towards the home touchline. The same player was red carded a few minutes later after a disgraceful challenge on Carson. The ref who was having a decent game gave Crewe the resulting free kick. Bizarre!

The home touchline felt aggrieved throughout the game that the ref didn't stamp his authority early on, to end the bad challenges from Crewe, never mind the foul language.

However the ref had a decent enough game in my opinion and the Comber touchline need to remember to keep their opinions about the ref and opposition to themselves, and not encroach on to the pitch at all, no matter how frustrated they get.

All in all an important game to win, and hopefully a decent game against the oppostion in the Cup on Saturday.
