Under 15s Match Report

Newington Youth 3 Comber 0

After last weeks great effort against league leaders Doyle, Comber lost todays game without putting up much of a challenge at all. Despite their lofty position in the current league table, Newington were certainly there for the taking. This said, Newington fully deserved their comfortable victory.

Early on the ball broke kindly to Carson just in front of goal but he failed to make enough contact to put Comber one up. Comber were actually on top in the first 15 mins but were unable to create an opening goal. Wilson was unlucky when his lobbed shot just went wide. Newington were awarded a clear penalty when Walker mistimed his challenge and brought down the small but tricky forward. One nil Newington! The Newington forward was proving difficult fro the Comber defence to handle.

At halftime the Comber Boys were encouraged that they could go out and win the game! They had nothing to fear from their opponents but the "will to win" was clearly not there in some of the Comber team. The midfield failed to track back countless times and the defence at times played poorly. Newington scored their second with a high shot over Rosbotham. Comber had the ball in the Newington goal but the official ruled it offside when Wilson passed to Clifford. It was soon 3-0 when the defence failed to deal with a cross. With the game up, all subs were brought on and all performed well. Without a couple of decent saves from Rosbotham, it could have been worse. Praise must go to Coulter in midfield for his effort. At times it seemed he was on his own in the middle!

There must be a vast improvement in the effort, and energy in the team as a whole and we need to be able to take our chances when they arise. Next game is a league/cup/plate game against Crewe. Enough said!!

Team: Rosbotham, Dunlop A, Rowan, Walker, Magee, Coulter, Milligan, Carson, Dunlop J, Wilson, Clifford.
Subs: Crooks, Kalkerts, Moore, Rodney, Leeper
MOM : Rosbotham
