Connor 3 Comber 2
Knock out cup semifinal
Comber wasted their last chance of silverware this season to continue a very poor run of defeats, against an average Cnnor team who they had already beaten earlier in the season. Within 15 mins of the kickoff Comber were 2-0 down, and were up against it. Their first was a penalty which the referee awarded against Kalkerts for a handball. Their second a few minutes later came when the striker broke free down the right wing and lobbed Rosbotham with a great Strike. Comber as they have all season, started slowly!
A goal was pulled back, when Clifford flicked the ball on to Wilson who scored his third goal in 3 matches. Coulter was doing his best in midfield but at times it seemed he was on his own.
After halftime Comber equalised, when the ref awarded another penalty when Coulter was fouled in the box. The spot kick was blasted in by Josh Dunlop. Comber were now easily the better side, but Milligan with a header, and Clifford with a tame shot was unable to put Comber in front. Dunlop then had a chance to add to his tally but struck his shot just wide. The game was certainly going to extra time. I asked the ref how long left? One minute was his reply. Three minutes later the pacy Loughside forward broke away and slotted past Rosbotham.
I wouldn't say the better team won but Loughside took their chances. Well done them! As for Comber, to say I was disapponted was an understatement. Other results that day showed that Comber could easily have won the Knockout Cup this year.
