Under 15s Match Report

Sport & Leisure       6         Comber       1

What a difference a week makes. After last weeks comprehensive win over Barn, the Comber boys got a severe reality check against one of the leagues new teams.

Comber got off to the worst possible start when a misplaced kick by Rowan fell to their striker who put it past Rosbotham easily. Comber had a few chances of their own, and were awarded their third penalty of the season when Clifford was bundled over. Top scorer Clifford then missed the spot kick but Josh Dunlop was first to react to the save by the keeper, to score his second of the season to level the match. In central midfield the home team were much stronger, were physical in their challenges and generally wanted the ball more. Just before the break a shot was luckily deflected past Rosbotham to make it 2 :1. Then from a home corner Clarke headed what was a certain goal of the line. No zonal marking here!!

At halftime the boys were told they were still in the game and needed to score the next goal. However Comber fell further behind when the home player was allowed through a non-existant midfield and eventually scored. heads certainly dropped from then on, and the home team continued to score their total of six goals. The scoreline would have been much worse had it not been for the strong and timely challenges by Walker and particularly Rowan. All five subs were brought on and contributed well.  McVicker had a couple of freekicks late on and was unlucky not to score.

A very disappointing result for the boys and supporters on the sidelines, however the final result did not reflect the game as a whole. Magees' long throwins were excellent and the back four and keeper played very well throughout. Kalkerts did well in midfield when brought on, tackling much stronger and bigger opponents continuously. The MOM was awarded to Rowan (not by me), for his many goal saving challenges.

Much improvement is needed in the "wanting to win the ball department". We need to play harder and stronger in all our games if we are to move up the table.
