Under 15s Match Report

 

After last weeks dismal result, Comber started very brightly and were soon camped in the opposition half trying to achieve their first home win of the season. The strong wind had a big effect on the game with the players at times finding it difficult to measure their passes. The slightly changed Comber midfield were certainly doing what they didn't do last week, competing and challenging for every loose ball. Wilson had a decent chance to score but his left foot effort went just wide. Eventually after a series of corners, the ball fell to Rowan who turned and and scored with his left foot to put Comber one up. It was no more than the home side deserved. Kalkerts, who had a great game in midfield,  had a long range effort but was unsuccessful. He soon made up for it a few minutes later, when the ball broke to him outside the box. He took a touch then smashed an awesome strike into the roof of the net. Definately a contender for goal of the season!!

As Comber were playing against the wind in the second half, the boys knew it would be more difficult. Comber coped very well confining the oppostion to a few half chances. All subs were eventually brought on to replace weary legs and generally hold on to the lead. A momentary lapse of concentration at a Connor corner led to the opposition scoring their goal. This led to a nailbiting couple of minutes at the end as Connor pushed forward (wind assisted) looking for the equaliser. The game finally ended and Comber got their deserved win.
