Under 15s Match Report

 

Comber got off to their usual slow start and very early on conceded a soft goal. The ball was played through, the normally strong defence which stopped expecting an offside decision, and the opposing forward ran on and slotted past Rosbotham. Play to the whistle lads!! After this shock Comber came into the game and soon were on top. Coulter and Milligan were strong and energetic in midield and Comber finally got their reward when Josh Dunlop hit a tap in to equalise. Wilson was doing great in midfield too, and it was his pass to Clifford that set up Combers' second goal, which the Loughside keeper seemed to let through his legs. They all count! Rowan then made a goal saving tackle at the other end on one of Loughsides few attacks.

In the second half right from the kickoff, Comber got their third when Wilson, Dunlop and Milligan combined passes and the latter notched his first goal of the season. The boys must have thought the game was in the bag. Wrong! The self destruct button was pushed when the Comber defence failed to clear a corner, 3-2! Then Rosbotham was unlucky to allow a shot to go under him 3-3! Comber had lost a two goal lead inside 5 minutes. The rest of the half saw Loughside, tails up looking for the winner. Their fourth came when again a mixup between defender and goalie allowed the striker to lob over the oncoming Rosbotham. With Comber now playing three at the back, they went forward in search of an
equaliser. After a good build up Dunlop smashed a shot against the bar. Then 6 minutes into injury time Comber was awarded a free kick. Dunlop hit the shot, which took a deflection to make it 4-4.

What a relief! But definately 2 points dropped. Comber need to take more of their chances when they arise, and certainly have to be able to hold on to a 2 goal lead. Walker had a great game in defence, as did Clarke, but at times in the second half the midfied failed to track back.
