New season, new management
As Comber 16's took to the field with their new look outfit including 5 new players to bolster an already good team, confidence was high as they took on North End who are also new to the league, the match started well, being physical and fast on an already slick pitch due to the torrential rain from the night before, altho missing one of our key players we showed we were no push overs and matched North End tackle for tackle, with a strong defensive line held well by captain Adam Rowan and new addition Jamie McLoughin, we pushed the play forward and never let the opposition have time to settle on the ball, as we penetrated their defense on the 25th min out the right hand side, Adam Childs came to the right to collect the ball, and totally sold their left back to put a delightful ball into one of our other debutants Adam Bennett, who controlled the ball dead and placed the ball point blank behind the keeper and celebrated as it nestled into the net, 1-0 up and a great start, instead of most teams to settle with what they had achieved the Rec pressed the play again in search for another to seal an over powering 1st half display, this came in a carbon copy of the first, with the ball coming in from the right to Bennett again to start his new campaign off with two goals, quite impressive
With the second half under way and a few on the Rec sidelines getting concerned with a few decisions that could have gone our way but the Ref didn't apparently see, this started to get under the Rec's noses, as North end powered forward, and got a shot off from 25yards, which somehow got through what can only be called an 8man crowd on our own area, slipped into the side of the net and brought North End back into the match, altho to say that, the Rec showed great character and didnt let their heads drop and completely woke up, great battles were won in the middle of the park by our midfield dynamo Neil Ennis, who to be fair took a few more hits than he probably should have done, picking up a slight calf niggle, with Adam Childs pulling the strings to eventually break the dead lock of North End's defence with a one on one with their keeper, he only got a slight touch of the ball for Adam to nick it off him and put it into the net, altho the Ref deemed that to be a foul and called it back for a free kick, we continued to pass and move well, and again broke the defence breaking down the left this time as Nathan Rodney did the whole match scaring their right back, who im sure had nightmares about him, the keeper came to collect yet the ball changed direction due to Nathan getting a touch of it and was brought down, again the Ref didn't see this and North End got off lightly, 25mins into the second half, starting to show our fitness due to a hard pre-season, and Rodney breaks again down the left to cross a hard low ball into the box for Davidson to put over the bar, early start for specs savers miss of the season!!!! In the dying minutes we get a corner and Coach Michael Davis sends everyone upfront, having in his mind that new defender Ryan Bradley could maybe sneak a match winner, as the keeper came collect well he clearly struck one of our players in the back with a punch, but not to the Ref's view, final score 2-2
All in all, one point gained two points lost in the management's eyes, but early doors in the season, and we are more than confident the mighty Rec 16's will bounce back bigger and harder
Willowbank next week, watch out we are coming to get ya
