Under 17s Match Report

Comber Rec V Bangor Rangers (KO CUP)

Comber faced Bangor for the third time this season at Rathcoole in what proved to be a thrilling encounter. Comber started off sluggish against a Bangor side who looked ‘up’ for this cup encounter. A free kick on the edge of the pitch saw Combers first attack and Irwin delivered a ball that flew over the Bangor ‘keepers head and into the net. A break that Comber not necessarily deserved however it was something they could build on. After the restart it was Bangor who had the lion share of the possession, with Comber too anxious to keep hold of the ball for any length of time. It was no surprise when Bangor equalised through their centre forward who was having an excellent game.

Half time 1-1

The second half started with Comber showing more urgency in their play. About 5 minutes into the half, Clegg, who was carrying a few niggles, entered the fray and his contribution was telling from the first minute. Comber won a free kick and when it was delivered, Clegg was the only player to be alert and knocked the ball into an empty net with his first touch. Comber started to play nice neat football and scored their third through a low shot from Irwin who was influential in midfield. At the end of the game the hard working Crooks got on the score sheet through a mix up in the Bangor defence when their ‘keeper kicked the ball against his own defender only for Crooks to hook the ball into an empty net

Final Score Comber 4 – 1 Bangor Rangers
