St James

The comber rec team made the trip to spafield HOLYWOOD for this Friday nite home fixture under the lights . Again missing was Owen John gill due to injury ,Callum McKay due to another commitment ,sadayu jack school formal and pat Mack who withdrew shortly before kick off .

The goal keeper big Tom lappin was feeling unwell prior to the game however the shot stopper took his place between the posts in what turned out to be busy nite for him .

The match began with the rec playing there usual 4-5-1 formation with young benji Hamilton getting a start up front ,with Callum Dawson from the 02ís making his debut playing Justin front of the back 4.

The ref got the game underway and straight from the start the rec where on the attack captain Matty Gibson and midfield maestro luke Johnston seeing plenty of the ball 9 mins in and a corner to the rec ,Adam bestie Martin plays the ball low in along the ground where itís met by the big centre half the beast from the east Alex Hamilton who powers his shot in low wide of the keeper to make it 1-0 to the rec the perfect start for the comber players .

Play continues with st James pushing hard to get an equaliser this match was far from over 18 mins in and for all the recís hard work a 2nd goal this time young benji Hamilton plays the ball to Adam bestie Martin who fires the ball into the net to make it 2-0 to the rec a much deserved goal . St James push forward w

ith attack after attack but thereís the recís keeper Tom lappin who time after time gets to the ball to stop the attack .

The recs defence with Dawson playing just in front where proving to be a difficult nut to crack .

Yet another save from keeper lappin prevents a certain goal not bad when you consider the big man was feeling unwell prior to kick off ,37 mins on the clock and just what the doctor ordered benji Hamilton plays skipper Matty Gibson through who blasts the ball past the keeper to make it 3-0 to the rec so far a great performance by the boys playing in red due to a kit colour clash a good solid 1st half by the comber players . At the other end keeper lappin races out from his goal to break up another attack the big keeper using his days as a centre half to show he hasnít lost his touch as an outfield player.

The ref blows up to bring an exciting 1st half to an end a great performance from the comber lads .

HALF TIME SCORE .COMBER REC 3. V. ST JAMES 0 .

No changes in players at the start of the 2nd half for the rec itís as you where, young Benjamin Hamilton reverting back to his usual left back position with the kebab king Cameron Haslam moving back up front as the ref gets the game underway . Straight from kick off st James are on the attack trying there best to back into the game with the rec dropping Callum Dawson back into the back 4 to try and tighten things up with the extra man .

Keeper lappin runs from his goal to clear the ball after a st James players breaks through with the rec holding a deep line the speedy forward an inch away from getting a shot on goal.

The recs back 4 had been playing the offside trap so successfully all game this was a warning for them a lapse in concentration could cost them dearly.

54minutes gone and the rec are celebrating again this time itís the kebab king Cameron Haslam who picks the ball up outside the box powers his way past the defender and fires a cracker of a shot past the st James keeper to make it 4-0 wow what a start to the 2nd half . St James where not for giving up without a fight but time and again the recs keeper big Tom lappin came to the rescue racing from his goal to prevent shots on goal .

Chance for st James a shot from the edge of the box thunders against the crossbar so unlucky ,at this point in the game the rec seem to have lost there way all of a sudden No communication the usual thing switching off and inviting the st James team back into the match and sure enough half way through the 2nd half and they pull a goal back everyone stops and watches as the st James midfielder runs into the box unchallenged to put the ball in the back of the net .

From never looking in doubt now the rec boys are looking nervy struggling to clear there lines and no communication between them . Score 4-1 to the rec st James continue to press that goal seems to gave them the confidence to push on the rec are struggling to offer anything in reply .

Again keeper big Tom lappin comes to the rescue coming out to clear the ball as pressure begins to mount attack after attack and just when you thought things would settle down 59 minutes gone in comes the st James no8 to finish off a sweeping attack 4-2 to the rec game on . The pressure and panic was starting to show you could see the rec coaching team on the line in utter disbelief the rec players seemed determined to throw this one away the st James team where cutting through the recs midfield and defence at ease ,10 mins to go and itís big Marty yehboha time a double substitution coming onto the field big Marty drysdale and rahoule ghondu replacing goalscorer Cameron Haslam and Adam Martin .

Play continues with the rec defence still under attack some great defending by Hamilton , cromie and Lennon was keeping the visitors out . Another fine safe from keeper lappin as we move into the final minutes should be enough to see the comber lads home ,the referee looks at his whistle and blows up to bring this exciting match to an end .

Wow boy do the rec boys no how to make hard work of winning a match .

Team: Tom lappin, Reuben Lennon, Brandon cromie, Alex Hamilton, Cameron Haslam, Jonny Jackson, Matty Gibson, luke Johnston, Callum Dawson, Adam Martin, Benji Hamilton
Subs: Marty. Drysdale, Rahoule ghondu

A great performance from the big keeper kept the boys in it when he was called upon some great starting positions and if he cuts the show boating out can only get better.
