The u17’s made the trip to Henry Jones for a home match against Oliver plunkett for this early morning kick off .
The rec boys new what they would be up against as they had beaten plunkett in the supplementary cup a few weeks back .
How ever this morning’s encounter would turn out to be anything but the same .
The rec lined up in the usual formation with a line up that included recalled Brandon Cromie at centre back who had put in a good weeks training and was ready to take his chance .
The game kicked off with both teams having an equal share of the ball, on the 7th minute a corner kick to the rec boys .midfield maestro Luke Johnston floated over the perfect ball and there was no 9 Sadayu who out-jumped the plunkett defender to power a header past the helpless plunkett keeper 1-0 to the rec .
Play continued some of the rec players seemed to be still sleeping there usual passing game was non exsistant with some sloppy defending and poor communication throughout the team it wasn’t long before Oliver plunkett found an equaliser 1-1 ,the rec management team where struggling to get the message through to the players to get the ball down and play .
Time for a change the rec bring on mike Mcgrath in at right back in place of Zach Quinn
Who was covering instead of the usual centre back position ,but it wasn’t long before the rec found themselves 2-1 down with plunkett finding it easy to cut right through the recs midfield and defence .
The rec’s management team where struggling to come to terms with such a poor performance from the players it was as if they had just gave up they really needed to up there game or else there winning run would come to an abrupt end .
The referee blows up to end a 1st half in which there was only one team wanting the points surely there had to be an improved performance in the 2nd half from the rec players, simply not good enough .
The 2nd half begins with the Rec players looking fired up for it ,however it isn’t long until they begin to slip back to there 1st half performance no communication , no support, no movement off the ball infact no desire at all to try and turn this game round ,10 mins in and plunkett go 3-1 in front totally deserved ,coach Phil makes another change bringing on Ben chambers at left back with Callum McKay making way ,Cameron haslam is pushed up front to play along with sadayu .
Play continues end to end stuff at last the Rec string a few passes together 75 minutes in and the rec pull one back captain Matty Gibson fires a shot in for striker Cameron Haslam following up to slot the ball home 3-2 to plunkett .
The rec players continue to press for the equaliser however with time quickly running out 7 minutes to go yet another mistake let’s the plunkett forward through who puts the ball away to make it 4-2 to plunkett .
The Rec players have only themselves to blame ,plenty of work to be done next week in training .
The ref blows up to bring an end to the match final score 4 - 2 to Oliver plunkett .
A disaster for the players of comber rec only themselves to blame beaten in a match that they should never have lost .
Hopefully lessons will be learnt .
