Comber Rec under 18's began their season with a 9.00am kick off in the SBYFL with a convincing 5-1 win against Cregagh Wonderers at Orangefield on Saturday the 17th. The lads started well moving and passing the ball with confidence on what was a pretty good surface, Stevie McCleary and Mark Coulter in the midfield engine room doing some excellent work by spreading the ball to both flanks causing the opposition all sorts of problems. Capt Mike Busby and his defence of Matthew Crooks, Ross Whitehead and Jack Walker dealt with anything Cregagh could muster in the opening few minutes. Ben Hunter stretched the back of the net with a superb strike after a clinical passing move had started from Comber's defence. A bright start to compliment the sunny autumnal morning but darkness fell soon after that when Cregagh scored an impressive equalliser as the result of Comber's ineffective clearances from a couple of corners. A few minutes later Jamie Morrow restored the lead with a well taken effort which kick started the Under 18's into the passing game that the coaching staff insist on. Andy Flack and Ryan Bell up front created chances, pressured every ball and forced mistakes from Cregagh's defence which resulted in the third goal coming from an og. 3-1 at the break. The second half was more of the same, Andy Topping kept a second half clean sheet while the lads scored two more very good goals both from Ryan Bell. Dylon Wilson changed the whole momemtum of the game when he took over on the right flank early in the second half by torturing the left back into submission time out of number. Matthew Robinson, Andy Bell and Nathan Clifford all played a valued role when they came on. All in all a good day at the office and a fine start to the 2011/2012 campaign. Well done the lads.
