The smell of the burger van at Mallusk could be picked up on the M2 as the Comber Rec lads headed north to face Ballycastle's finest for the 10.30 kick-off in very windy conditions. Stevie McC blasted in a free kick from 20yds within 5 minutes of the start which very quickly put to rest the ghost of that 0-0 draw some weeks ago against the same opponents and settled the Comber U18s into the flow of the game which wasn't easy due to the head wind at pitch 6. Comber playing into the eye of the storm kept the passing short and sharp and made it 2-0 after Andy Bell had travelled with the ball from the left back position to feed Ross Whitehead on the right who crossed for Dylan Wilson to fire home, a good goal in any conditions, a very good goal in these conditions. As you would expect Ballycastle went on the offensive and had The Rec U18s camped in their own half for a period of time but the strong spine of the team consisting of Capt Mike Busby, Robbo, Mathew Crooks and Mark Coulter backed up by Andy Topping in goals kept it scoreless for Ballycastle and 2-0 at the break, though it could have been four had Ross Whitehead's two driven efforts found the target. However, with the wind in their sails and on their backs Comber moved the ball with some authority from the re-start, Mark Coulter converted a training ground corner when he smashed in from the corner of the 18yd box to make 3-0. Paddy Carser put in a good shift on the left flank until he made way for Andy Flack. Nathan Clifford joined Dylan Wilson up front after Ryan Bell had done his bit for the team. A headed goal scored by Ross Whitehead crossed the line despite the two handed save attempt by a Ballycastle defender, 4-0 but Comber Rec U18s hadn't finished yet, Dylan Wilson completed the scoreline when he scored from a corner to make it 5-0. Andy McBriar and Dean Wylie both came on and gave a valued contribution to keep the Comber lads top of the league. A good day for sure and a good result going forward to next weeks match v Bangor Amatuers.
