A much better performance this week than in the last three matches since the move up to Section A saw the Rec go into the winter break in a happier frame of mind.
Although we lost, the lads played a more controlled style of football and were competitive throughout the game. There was a better awareness of the importance of playing in your position and not chase the ball all over the pitch and this was probably the single biggest contributor to the result as it meant the lads were able to keep things tight all over the pitch and not leave massive holes for the other team to exploit.
Provided we learn today’s lesson then we will continue to improve.
Some very good wing play by Jonny Jackson on the right almost paid dividends time and again. The only thing lacking was a goal and on another day we might have got 2 or 3.
We still need to work on awareness of other players around you as we still have a tendency to go for goal when there is another player in a better position but this will come.
Creating space is another skill to learn and again experience is the best teacher.
All in all a very good team performance with all of the lads playing much better and making a good contribution.
Highlights were some neat pass and move moments when the ball was played from Tom in nets, to the defence, out to midfield and forward to the man up front which shows we are capable of playing this way. Now if we can do it consistently and capitalise on the final ball then we will start to get a few goals.
