After the initial surge of five games in two weeks we can now settle down to what will be a long season; yes, the football season is a marathon rather than a sprint!
Without being unfair to those who have played in the first five fixtures the season did start two or three weeks too soon for Comber Rec! I I know all clubs can tell of woes and sad stories but we were without some of our most influential individuals due to a variety of reasons. That is behind us so it is now upwards and onwards.
The absence of key players has opened the door to other players and claims have been laid to regular selection. There is no doubt our squad is stronger now than we envisaged. Alought certain areas do have to be improved. With a couple of exceptions our squad is younger and fresher faced than previous seasons; the job is to blend the youth with the experience and make it work.
I am extremely disappointed with our points return in the three league games thus far, well, actually make that singular - one point! our performances have warranted a greater reward than the single we have on the board but that's football.
Whilst it would have been more satisfactory to have got off to a flying start to quote the words of a well known TV personality; "it's not how you start, its the way you finish!" (Noel Edmonds, Deal or no Deal!)
This week, 29th August, we have no competitive fixture but we intend having a practice match against a Glentoran Select, this will allow us to get more people match practice.
If you are a regular attended at our games stay positive, I am confident good times are just around the corner. Keep the faith!
