Sorry, but I am going to have to say it …… “it was a game of two halves!”

I think we were the victims of a typical cup tie scenario where the underdogs played out of their skins. There is no doubt that Nortel edged the first half but what a super second half!

The players lifted themselves and overwhelmed the opposition. We did tweak things from the touchline but a big well  done to the guys on the pitch for turning the game round.

During the week leading up to the game against Nortel one of our players couldn’t train due to, first a knee injury and then a throat infection; if you were at the game and saw the goal he scored he scored you would never guess it was Peter Kelly! PK was consequently selected as Comber Man of the Match. Thanks to Councillor Mervyn Oswald for his generous sponsorship which included sponsorship of  the match ball. If you would like to sponsor at Comber Rec (Man of the Match, Match ball or anything else!) contact David Browne, Sammy Haskins, any of the club officials or info@comber-rec.co.uk

Also congratulations to Kyle McQuillan for being the One Stop Mortgage Shop Player of the Month for August. Last season Kyle would have been called an “outside left” but is now a convert to left back.

He can also boast to be out top goal scorer after seven games with three goals; they have all been penalties but the ball still has to hit the net !

On Saturday, 19th, we entertain Drumaness Mills in the Irish Cup at Park Way; now we probably won’t win the Irish Cup but we can dream!

Keep Believing !!
