If someone had told me at the start of the season that going into April we would be top of the league I would have been delighted ! Well, that’s where we are and all we can do is take each game as it comes and enjoy the moment. Last week our magnificent league run of winning games, eleven consecutive victories, ended with a draw against Killyleagh. We were disappointed at the final whistle and the result felt like a defeat. After a when bright start, when Chris Black who was deputising for Brain Burgess had to be on his toes, Killyleagh didn’t cause us too much concern so it was quite annoying that their equalizer came by virtue of a too easily conceded penalty kick.
Anyway, it’s upwards and onwards; Saturday 20th March 27, 2008 sees us away to Kilmore who beat Newington last week then we are at home to Downpatrick on the 3rd April.
On Easter Tuesday we had two lads at the Amateur League under 19’s trails for the trip to Italy in May. Timmy Ritchie and Adam Welsh, who have been first team regulars, played in a couple of games from which the eventual squad to travel for the Italian tournament will be selected. They are certainly good enough to be picked but its all down to how they performed on the day.
