When the draw paired us with Shankill United we made enquiries and got reports on them from several quarters. As a consequence we expected a tough game and we prepared for a tough game. When it came to “Showtime” what did we get? – We got a tough game! For anyone spectating it wasn’t nice to watch but the end result was, well, exactly what we had planned for!
To counteract our opponents on the basis of what we had gleaned we used a system therefore not tried by ourselves and, again, based on the outcome it worked.
I want to pay tribute to every single player; everyone gave 100%. Well done and thanks to all the Comber “aficionados” who travelled to the game. It gives the players a boost to see you all at the games.
More important now is our next game against Drumaness Mills in the League. Whilst we really need to take maximum points in this game it is not an easy place to go with that objective. In the two training sessions leading up to the game we will prepare the best we can and hope that we have benefit of a full(ish) and fit squad to choose from. It is not my style to moan about the unavailability of players but thus far this season we have not had a full range of players for various reasons. In our 15 competitive games to date we have used, get ready for this, 31 different players. That does not lend itself to continuity and the constant, usually enforced, changes make it very difficult for players to build up any understanding. I think we have done well to have drawn 1 and won 8 of the fifteen games. Lets hope the difference between won and lost games continues to increase in the right direction, of course. I believe it will.
Keep Believing
