The players deserve a lot of credit for their performance on Saturday in what I am sure has been a difficult week for them. Again based on the display they gave they deserved something from the game and to be fair Eamon (Newington Manager) was honest enough to admit that he was glad to hear the final whistle. We had a game plan to let them have the ball in their own half and not to go chasing things and then when we won it to spring forward. We did that very well and to be fair we had 3 of the best 5 chances of the game on top of the wonder strike from Magennis that somehow the keeper saved. We also had big shouts for a penalty but as has been the case in the last month we are just not getting the rub of the green. Newington are a top team who have been there and done it for a few years. The bottom line is if these players can reproduce that level of performance over the course of the season they will a lot more matches than they will lose. Particularly pleasing was the performances of Cummings, Harrison and Kennedy. They gave us a solid platform to build on.
We had to reschuffle just before kick off due to a couple of incidents that I don't want to get into but I have nothing but praise for the 14 players who took part in the game today.
