Albert Foundry 1 - 0 Comber Rec
Premier League
17th October 2009
Comber Pipped by Foundry
Comber Rec travelled to Albert Foundry on a beautiful autumn afternoon and came away bemoaning the lack of penetration up front.
The 'Rec' began brightly and Ritchie produced a dangerous cross from the right which was headed clear by the Foundry centre half. Comber continued to press and a wickedly hit corner from McQuillan was headed clear as it threatened to creep under the Foundry crossbar.
After a period of midfield stalemate Foundry started to get their game together and O'Boyle forced a tremendous save from Rooney. Comber's defence was caught flat footed when a poor clearance was picked up by a Foundry forward who's scuffed shot ran to an incoming midfielder who passed it into the net past a despairing Mooney. Comber responded immediately and McCloskey should have levelled when put clear in the opposition box, but took one touch too many and was closed out, Oliver was next to threaten with a shot which just cleared the bar. First half action was completed by a Ritchie flick-on gathered by Oliver who put McQuillan through on goal only for his thunderbolt to clear the left hand post.
The second half turned into a dour struggle with neither team threatening to score. Comber enjoyed the lions share of play but only threatened when Kelly was pushed forward his best effort cannoning of Foundry's goalkeeper and wide of an upright.
Although Comber once again failed to find the net there were some solid performances produced notably from Peter Kelly, Joe Jeffrey, Paul Emerson and Ryan Johnstone.
Supporters Club Man of the Match sponsored and selected by Jack Johnstone was Keith Doherty
