This Season Comber Rec youth decided to further increase its participation in youth football competitions by accepting the offer to enter a team in the Bangor CIS Insurance 9 a-side football competition.
This competition is aimed at 11 – 15 year old boys and girls and is played at the same location in Bangor each week on half size pitches and ¾ size goals.
12 local teams from the North Down / Ards area including Comber have entered and the game format is that each team play 2 games each week lasting 20 minutes. (10mins E/W)
Comber has had players from each of its youth sides take part in the competition using an amazing 28 different players during the ten weeks of the competition.
This has proved a very successful tournament from a youth development perspective as each Saturday
no players from the under 11’s, under 13’s or under 15 squads have been left without a football game to be involved in.
During the 9 weeks leading up to the finals Comber won 16 games drew 1 game and lost 1 game scoring a superb 72 goals and conceding just 6.
18 different players managed to score which is a credit to each of them.
In the Final week the teams were placed in three groups based on their performance during the tournament. Comber finished in the top group along with Bangor Swifts 1, Castle Juniors 1 and Groomsport 1. |

For the final two games a draw was made from the four teams in the group pairing Comber against Castle Juniors 1 in the Semi-Final.
In a fantastic game which finished 0-0 a nail biting penalty shoot out resulted in Comber winning on the final kick to reach the final. In the Final Comber met Groomsport 1 and in a hard fought game came out 2-0 winners.
This resulted in Comber finishing as overall winners of the competition to the delight of all the players and parents in attendance.
This tournament has been a huge success and all of the players who participated have thoroughly enjoyed it. We now look forward to the spring / summer competition beginning in March when it is hoped that we can enter a team in the 7 a side competition for 8 - 11 year olds.

Congratulations to all the players for a successful tournament and we can now look forward to March’s Competition as the defending champions.
