Comber Rec progressed into the third round of the Irish Cup after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over a well-organised Portavogie side.

The Rec were on the front foot for the majority of the game, enjoying plenty of possession and putting the visitors under sustained pressure, but Portavogie defended resolutely and made Comber work for every opportunity.

Despite seeing most of the attacking play, the breakthrough proved difficult to find as the game remained goalless deep into the second half.

The decisive moment finally arrived in the 76th minute when Brandon Nelson rose highest to meet a delivery into the box and powered a header into the net to give Comber the lead.

Portavogie pushed for a response in the closing stages, but the Rec remained composed and saw the game out to secure a deserved victory and their place in Round Three.
