Comber Rec secured their place in the next round of the cup following an entertaining and hard-fought 3–2 victory over Kilmore, in a match that produced five goals, plenty of drama and one of the most extraordinary goals ever witnessed at the Rec.

The visitors made the perfect start, taking the lead in the opening minutes following a corner that caught the Comber defence off guard. However, the Rec responded well to the early setback and were soon back on level terms when Hutton was perfectly placed to finish from close range.

Then came a moment of absolute magic that will be talked about for some time. Comber goalkeeper Pollock, clearing the ball from inside his own penalty area, watched in disbelief as his effort travelled the length of the pitch, bounced over the head of the stranded Kilmore goalkeeper and dropped into the net. An astonishing goal from the Rec number one and surely a contender for goal of the season!

However, Kilmore refused to let the remarkable strike knock them off course. Just before the interval, the visitors were awarded a penalty, which they duly converted to restore parity and send the teams into the break level at 2–2.

With everything still to play for, the second half promised plenty of excitement. It was Hutton who once again proved decisive for the Rec, grabbing his second goal of the afternoon to put Comber back in front at 3–2.

Kilmore continued to battle and made sure the home side could take nothing for granted, but Comber held firm to protect their narrow advantage and secure their passage into the next round of the competition.

Sadly, the closing minutes were overshadowed by a serious-looking injury to a Kilmore player. Football rivalries were put firmly to one side as concern turned to the injured player.

Everyone at Comber Rec would like to send their sincere best wishes to the Kilmore player involved and hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

A memorable cup tie, a Hutton double and an unforgettable goal from Pollock — but most importantly, the Rec are safely through to the next round!
